BBC Cymru Wales
Cardiff
The project
BBC Cymru Wales headquarters brings together a mix of state-of-the-art broadcasting facilities while creating a new dynamic quarter opposite Cardiff Central Railway Station. Lawray was part of the team on this large-scale mixed-use building that has rejuvenated part of the city centre.
The future of broadcasting
This building was the first to employ next generation IP technology across BBC Cymru Wales's production and broadcast operations. Working with Fosters & Partners, Arup, and IDSR, Lawray was appointed by ISG and Rightacres for the technical delivery and developer-funded internal fit-out prior to the FF&E contract. This included developing the construction detailing and the coordination of the pioneering recording and TV studios.
Lawray ‘s CDM team was also appointed as principal designers and provided health and safety advice for the developer and contractor.
Coordinated BIM Level 2 design
The project embraced BIM Level 2 principles to ensure the details were fully translated to site and met the client’s aspirations.
Timely high-quality delivery
ISG successfully handed over this key development in the heart of Cardiff. A first of its kind, this impressive building is one of the most technically advanced at the BBC.
