European Technology Centre

Mazak Industrial

The project

Mazak’s Technology Centres are designed to give companies the chance to see their machines and latest technology in action. Our team supported the design of Yamazaki Mazak’s innovative European Technology Centre to help manufacturers throughout the UK and Europe achieve higher productivity and profitability.

A detailed brief

Yamazaki Mazak has been contributing to the development of the machine tool industry since 1919. Today, it’s a leading global company with offices and plants in Japan, China, Singapore, the USA and UK.

We were appointed by the developer Takenaka Europe as joint architect. Our role in the project was to provide a detailed design brief and support for a new technology centre that would be sited alongside the client’s existing manufacturing plant in Worcester.

Full UK compliance

Our team worked closely with Takenaka Europe to develop the planning design into a buildable structure that efficiently complied with all UK legislations. The entire building included a huge 15,000 sq ft of showroom space and 12,500 sq ft of ancillary accommodation, including a display area, auditorium, office and meeting space.

To give the site an innovative look and feel that would match the company’s drive, a key feature is the building’s striking curved elevational treatment. This is coupled with a slimline canopy that comfortably joins the new building to the existing facility.

“For the last four and a half years we have been working with Lawray on numerous projects throughout the UK and you’ve always ensured that you are part of our team and that you understand exactly what our requirements are. Your endless effort and commitment have helped us complete our works timely and successfully and we, as Takenaka, greatly appreciate your work.”
