At Lawray our philosophy is simple – to make the everyday inspirational. We create unique buildings with a legacy that has a positive impact on the people that use them and the communities that surround them.
Established back in 1974, our team of architects and technologists enable you to draw upon a wealth of collective experience across many sectors. However, thanks to the individual skills of our team, you’ll have access to the kind of specialist knowledge and guidance you need to make your vision a reality.
Our mission is to drive forward sustainable change through designs that embody collective innovation and integrity. By adopting the approach from the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Guide, and guidance from LETI and UKGBC, we take an active role at the beginning of each project to help it stay ecologically sound through purposeful and intelligent design. Our team has a thorough understanding of the environmental frameworks currently available in the UK and latest thinking and lessons learned are shared through our in-house Sustainability group.
As the transition to net zero gains pace, we are delivering some pioneering retrofit projects to achieve net zero carbon in operation, as well as designing schemes from scratch using a fabric first, whole-life approach.
Meeting the UK’s climate targets requires collaboration and determination. We place the team before the individual and work with external consultants, contractors and specialists to design and test solutions and share best practice. This enriches the design process and helps us develop new skills and creative ways of thinking.
Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our staff and providing agile working is very important to us, as is reducing our carbon footprint as individuals and as a practice.
Social responsibility is embedded in our values and underpins way we nurture our staff, improve outcomes for communities, and drive sustainable change.
As an ethical practice we carefully select commissions that will have a positive social, economic and environmental impact. Social objectives are an inherent part of the design process, and we aim to create beneficial outcomes by engaging with stakeholders and communities early on.
We support the development of resilient communities by creating employment opportunities and work placements. Our CSR programme has been designed to inspire the next generation of architects through our “The Future is Green Scheme” aimed college pupils and architecture students.
While every project we approach is designed around you and your individual needs, our primary role is to keep your project on track. To achieve your vision, we act as your leading consultants. Whether this is your first build or one of many, we’ll help you realise your design aspirations by creating close working partnerships between our team, expert bodies – and, most importantly, with you
At Lawray, we pride ourselves on being a single practice that just happens to sit in different locations – be that three studios or 40 home offices. It’s this ability to act as one that allows us to draw upon the collective strengths of our team, so the right person gets to work on right project, no matter where they’re located.
A wealth of experience
We approach every building we create with the same sense of care and responsibility to ensure each building reflects a unique solution developed from our experience and expertise in a range of sectors.
