What sparked your switch to architecture from your previous field? Can you tell us about your journey into this new direction?
I have a keen interest in both architecture and automotive design for as long as I can remember. When it came time to apply for university, I faced a difficult decision choosing between the two. Ultimately, I opted for automotive design. While I appreciated my studies in this field, I continually felt a pull back towards architecture. My decision to switch fields came after attending an architectural degree show. Seeing the impressive work of the students, reignited my passion for architecture and motivated me to make the transition, so I relocated from England to Wales to pursue my passion in this field. Having obtained a design degree and honed my skills using various software programs, I've found that this background has facilitated my seamless transition into architecture.
Are there any buildings that particularly inspire you? If so, how have they influenced your view of architecture?
One of several buildings that inspire me is the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a state-of-the-art sports facility and symbol of innovation, sustainability, and community engagement. Its striking design, featuring a sleek exterior and a unique retractable pitch, showcases the integration of advanced technology with architectural excellence. This stadium's dynamic and flexible spaces, along with its focus on fan experience and environmental sustainability, demonstrate the importance of user-centric design and responsible building practices.
What aspect of your role excites you the most?
I am excited by opportunity to merge creativity with technical expertise, stay at the forefront of industry advancements, and collaborate with diverse teams. It's a dynamic and fulfilling profession that allows me to make meaningful contributions to the built environment while continually expanding my skills and knowledge.
Besides architecture, what hobbies or interests do you have that inspire your creativity?
Aside from architecture, I have a range of hobbies and interests that provide me with inspiration for my creativity.
Traveling to new places is an exciting part of my life as I can experience different cultures, architecture, and landscapes. Visiting different places opens my imagination and broadens my perspective, influencing my design sensibilities.
Formula One is another interest of mine that sparks creativity. The emphasis on aerodynamics, efficiency, and performance inspires me to think critically about design solutions and push boundaries in my architectural work.
I find tranquillity and reflection in nature; connecting with the environment reminds me of the importance of sustainability and connectivity in design.
These interests not only enhance my life but also influence my architectural work with creativity and vitality.
Could you share a memorable experience that has shaped who you are today, either professionally or personally?
One of the most memorable experiences that has shaped who I am today is my journey with karate. Practicing karate has both influenced me physically and instilled valuable lessons that have shaped my character personally and professionally.
Karate taught me discipline from the very beginning. The rigorous training, the commitment to regular practice and the need for patience in mastering techniques all contributed to developing a strong sense of discipline within me. This discipline transcended beyond the dojo and became a fundamental aspect of how I approach tasks and challenges in all aspects of my life.
