Our project to create the first net zero carbon school in operation in Wales was announced as a winner at the Constructing Excellence Awards last night.
Lawray celebrated at Celtic Manor with fellow project team partners Morgan Sindall Construction, Merthyr Tydfil CBC, Cambria Consulting, WSP, MM Sustainable Consulting and Aecom. The deep retrofit of the school is set to achieve net zero carbon in operation together with a 20% reduction in embodied carbon. Built in 1972, its interconnected buildings include an indoor swimming pool, sports hall and gymnasium.
The school is being delivered under the Sustainable Communities for Learning programme (formerly 21st Century Schools) and is one of four net zero projects Lawray is delivering with Morgan Sindall. The project will be the subject of a talk at Education Estates 2023.
Congratulations to the project team all of the winners!
