Zip World Adventure Terminal
Gwynedd
The project
An adrenaline-inducing visitor attraction, Zip World at the Bethesda Quarry in North Wales boasts the fastest zip wire in the UK. Lawray was appointed as the delivery architect from RIBA Stage 3 for this unforgettable high-speed experience.
Sustainable tourism
Since opening in 2017, Zip World has provided a significant boost to the local economy. As well as delivering an unforgettable zip wire experience, the adventure terminal includes a viewing platform for the less intrepid, a locally sourced restaurant and a function space. One of several Zip World sites in the region, it’s a regeneration project that proves sustainable tourism can exist side-by-side with a post-industrial landscape.
UNESCO world site
Bethesda Quarry is part of the North Wales slate landscape that was inscribed as a #UNESCO world heritage site in 2021 for its contribution towards Welsh industrial heritage and global architecture. Welsh slate ‘roofed the 19th Century’ – from humble workers’ cottages and factories to the Palace of Westminster and the Royal Exhibition building in Melbourne, Australia.
