Nells Point

Barry Island, Vale of Glamorgan

The project

Made famous by the BBC’s ‘Gavin and Stacey’, Barry Island is a thriving visitor destination which has undergone significant investment in recent years. Lawray was appointed by Morse Affiliated to remodel the existing derelict Grade II Listed restrooms at Nell’s Point. Created around 1923, the restrooms will get a new lease of life as a restaurant complex, further enhancing the town’s tourist offer.

Rebuilt like-for-like

The existing 1920s façade will be rebuilt to recreate the original features of architectural interest, such as the render columns, plinths and decorative feature bands.

New eateries for Barry

New elements complement the restrooms, including a single-storey side extension with timber cladding and large glazed windows and entrances. An additional storey will create a rooftop restaurant, including a green wall and full-height glazing to provide a fine dining experience with views over Whitmore Bay. A further restaurant along with toilet facilities will be created in the basement.
