Island Green
Wrexham
The project
Thanks to a proven track record of breathing new life into historic sites, Lawray was commissioned to covert the former Island Green brewery buildings. A listed but long derelict site, we helped transform this sensitive and challenging project into 34 stylish town centre apartments.
Mixing old and new
Close to Wrexham town centre, the brewery had a history stretching back to 1856 with many later additions from the 1890s. We needed to embrace all this history, while converting the buildings into modern, attractive and functional residences.
Eye for detail
To try and capture the original vision of the client needed a great deal of planning and detailing. Our team worked carefully to retain the original charm and character of the buildings’ exteriors. What’s more, by using vernacular detailing, we carefully retained and renovated those particular features that reflected the site’s history.
However, while we strived to keep the history, we didn’t compromise on the comfort. While each space reveals hints of the building’s heritage, each apartment displays all the style and comfort you would expect of 21st century living.
