Blessed Dominic Junior School and St James Catholic High School

Barnet, London

The project

Blessed Dominic Catholic Primary School had been relocated to an area of land set aside within the site of St James’ Catholic High School. The project involved a large new conjoined building varying between 2 and 3 stories, housing the junior school, as well as a new Sixth Form Centre and Year 7 classrooms for St James. Our brief also included the creation of a new nursery to seed pupils into the junior school.

Benefits of BIM

A £25M initiative, this project was delivered as part of a framework partnership between the London borough of Barnet and Graham Construction.

The project partners mandated Building Information Modelling (BIM) as a best practice method for design delivery and it helped enormously right from the start. By using BIM, we were able to significantly reduce wasted effort and re-work. From appointment, the contractor was able to secure costs for a complete early construction package, including piling, foundations/ groundworks, steel frame and structural flooring within 10 weeks of appointment.

First in the UK

Grahams are one of the first UK-wide companies to achieve the prestigious British Standards Institute (BSI) Kitemark™ certification for both BIM Design and Construction (PAS 1192-2) and Asset Management (PAS 1192-3). The project was delivered incorporating architectural, structural and MEP disciplines to a BIM maturity of LOD 5 and LOI 5.
