Great Northern Hotel
London
The project
The Great Northern Hotel lies adjacent to King’s Cross and close to St Pancras International Railway Station. Lawray helped breathe new life into this iconic Grade II listed building by creating a stunning development that would give visitors arriving at St Pancras an inspiring entrance to the city.
Outstanding walkway
Created in tandem with the iconic redevelopment of the Kings Cross Concourse, Lawray was part of the team that collaborated to join the Great Northern Hotel with the concourse.
After closing during major improvement work on both stations, the building was scheduled for a major renovation to reclaim its beauty as a boutique hotel. Part of this brief was to design and build an outstanding walkway that would tie in with the newly constructed glazed roof above the railway concourse of King’s Cross.
An eye for detail
Working under appointment of the design and build contractor, our team was responsible for the detailing of the construction design packages. This included the refurbishment of the distinctive pedestrian arcades, restoration of the existing façade brickwork and coordinating finer details with the work that was taking place in King’s Cross and St Pancras International.
Separate commission
Lawray also worked directly with the developer, creating prospective designs for the fit-out of the building to assist with the buyout. The result echoes the building’s sentiments of the past, with the beauty and elegance of a bygone era. Once again, The Great Northern Hotel is an extraordinary landmark for travellers to marvel at for years to come.
