Ffos Caerffili

Caerphilly, Wales

The Project

Named ‘Ffos’ the Welsh word for ‘moat’ the market has been inspired by its proximity to Caerphilly castle, and it aims to become a hub for the town.

A beacon for South Wales

Lawray was commissioned by Lancer Scott to coordinate the contractors design elements from RIBA Stage 5 for a new container-style market in the heart of Caerphilly between the railway centre and Caerphilly Castle. The custom designed containers provide twenty-eight commercial units for a variety of food, beverage and retail outlets and commercial businesses.

Green roof systems, PV panels, rain gardens, and permeable paving has been used to make the scheme as sustainable as possible.

Lawray liaised with the Principal Contractor and sub-contractors to coordinate the Contractor Design elements. The project architects’ RIBA Stage 5 design intent drawings were reviewed, and additional drawings produced by Lawray to allow coordination of detailed design and site installation.
