V&A Museum
In 2015, Lawray oversaw the contractor’s design responsibilities for the refurbishment of the European Gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum. A highly collaborative project, we worked closely with design architect ZMMA, the V&A’s in-house team, and the contractor, Coniston, to deliver the scheme through to completion.
Varied responsibilities
Our role encompassed both design development and detailed technical coordination. This included the integration of a wide range of finishes and materials, alongside carefully considered structural interventions. Complex detailing, executed using high-quality materials, was complemented by the strategic use of artificial lighting, working together to enhance both the exhibition spaces and the artefacts on display.
Perfectly framed
To ensure each exhibit was experienced as intended, we analysed visitor movement throughout the gallery, reviewing sightlines and perspectives from every conceivable angle. The resulting level of design refinement and technical sophistication enabled the project to meet the exacting standards required by the V&A for this iconic Grade I listed building.
