Llandudno Police Station
As architects, we’ll always do whatever we can to adapt and preserve the integrity of an older building. In many cases, it’s clearly the right thing to do. However, there are times when the pressure of modern service and the financial cost of repair make the case for a whole new build simply unavoidable.
Fit for purpose
Lawray was appointed as architect and lead consultant for a new police station in Llandudno, just outside of the town’s conservation area. To help deliver a workspace worthy of a modern force, and make it far more economical to run, it was decided to replace the old Edwardian station.
Standing proud
Rather than ape the style of the surrounding buildings, the opportunity was there to create something unique for the area and the people who worked within it.
A striking design introduces a crisp modern aesthetic, reflecting the status of an important civic building in the town. Created in close consultation with the local planning authority, the building’s styling and the materials have carefully been chosen to withstand the area’s often harsh micro-climate and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance. The project was considered so successful it went on to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
