Project Overview
At Latitude 52 in Plymouth, Lawray played a key role in the refurbishment of a residential building steeped in maritime heritage, working in close collaboration with our client, Lancer Scott. Originally serving as a sailor’s rest centre, the building was converted in 2004 into 102 apartments, with the addition of two extra storeys. As fire safety regulations and performance standards evolved, a comprehensive upgrade was required to ensure the building remained compliant and fit for the future.
Fire-Safe Cladding Upgrade
Our approach focused on enhancing safety and durability while preserving the building’s distinctive character. Alongside our project partners, we replaced the existing timber cladding with a non-combustible fibre cement weatherboard system, carefully specified to replicate the appearance of natural timber. This solution not only improves fire performance but also increases weather resistance and long-term durability.
Futureproofing Heritage Living
The refurbishment has significantly strengthened the building’s safety profile while maintaining its architectural identity. Latitude 52 now offers residents a façade that is visually striking, compliant, and resilient, demonstrating how considered design and specification can successfully transform and futureproof a legacy residential building.
