Great Northern Hotel
The Great Northern Hotel lies adjacent to King’s Cross and close to St Pancras International Railway Station. Lawray helped breathe new life into this iconic Grade II listed building by creating a stunning development that would give visitors arriving at St Pancras an inspiring entrance to the city.
Outstanding walkway
Delivered as part of the iconic redevelopment of King’s Cross Concourse, Lawray formed part of the collaborative team responsible for reconnecting the Great Northern Hotel with the concourse.
Following its closure during extensive improvement works across both stations, the building underwent a major renovation to restore its status as a boutique hotel. A key element of this brief was the design and construction of an exceptional walkway, carefully integrated with the newly formed glazed roof spanning the King’s Cross railway concourse.
An eye for detail
Appointed by the design and build contractor, Lawray led the detailed design of the construction packages. This scope included the refurbishment of the distinctive pedestrian arcades, the restoration of the existing façade brickwork, and the careful coordination of architectural details alongside the wider works at King’s Cross and St Pancras International.
Separate commission
In a separate appointment, Lawray also worked directly with the developer to produce prospective fit-out designs to support the building’s buyout. The resulting scheme reflects the hotel’s rich heritage, capturing the elegance and craftsmanship of a bygone era. Today, the Great Northern Hotel once again stands as an extraordinary landmark, set to be admired by travellers for generations to come.
