Compartment Fire Behaviour Training Centre

It’s essential that fire crews can perform breathing apparatus training safely. But it’s just as important to protect the environment around that facility too. As lead consultant and architects for this specialist project, we helped South Wales Fire and Rescue Service create a Compartment Fire Behaviour Training Centre (CFBT) that enabled us to achieve both objectives.

Socially responsible

The first of its kind in Wales, Cardiff Gate CFBT Centre has become a higher priority for fire services. The chance to recreate realistic smoke-filled hazards within buildings ensures that their people are ready for anything. As architects, we wanted to prove what can be achieved to reduce any environmental impact.

Zero emissions

The team spent almost two years in the planning stages, including research and development into existing similar facilities across the UK and Europe. We also engaged with professionals from LION Group in Belgium to fully coordinate all smoke capture, extraction and filtration systems.

The result is a CFBT Centre that creates full-on smoke hazard training for crews but delivers zero emissions into the atmosphere.
